What is Pinterest
Pinterest is a visual website designed to help you discover
new things on the internet by using pictures, videos, and animated GIFs,
Pinterest calls it Pins. Similar Pins can be gathered in one unit called Board.
The Boards themselves are defined by a title and a category, and category can represent related subjects such as education, marketing tips, arts, DIY projects… etc.
Using Pinterest
First of all, I have created my own account to search, save Pins, and adding my photos as well.
As we can see there’re two account options: a personal account and
business account.
The business account can be used in a marketing campaign by adding photos of your products as Pins and links it to your website, this will help you reach more customers and you also can have analytics that helps you to understand more about your audience.
Once you create an account you can easily search for Pins and Boards about any topic you’re interested in
and save it to your profile.
You can create a Board
about any specific topic, you can share it with others or make it a secret
Board for you only.
Pinterest user can
also upload new Pins to the account.
Most Pins have a link
to a source site which can be useful in product marketing.
If you search for DIY
projects like origami and open a Pin shows you the way of doing any shape of
it, you’re able to add a comment on it, and also you can
add a photo of your own version of making it.
Pinterest Educational Uses
Pinterest also can be very useful in education, it allows students to collaborate by adding Pins to a shared Board, and this can help the students in working on educational Projects together, these Boards can be followed by others as well.
As mentioned in
“Language Learning At Home” website, Pinterest can be really helpful in learning
language:
“Let me share just a
few reasons why Pinterest can be an especially helpful tool for language
learners:
- The organization of the boards keeps ideas (like vocabulary games)
and information (like grammar rules) readily accessible, allowing you to
reference it as needed, whether during an actual lesson or while you’re
planning out your homeschool curriculum for the week (or month, or
year).
- Pinterest’s visual nature may be especially effective for those
children who learn best when they have can see images tied to words (note:
this is actually recommended strategy for anyone learning a foreign
language!).
- Pinterest is full of creative ideas shared by language teachers and
by experienced homeschooling moms who have successfully taught foreign
languages at home—ideas that we can all benefit from!”
