SAMR Models

SAMR model is a framework designed by Dr. Ruben Puentedura to assist educators in fuse technology into teaching and learning. This model allows teachers to develop, design, and infuse digital learning experiments that make effective use of technology. The purpose of it is to transform learning experiments in order that they lead to higher levels of accomplishment for students.

The letters "SAMR" is actually made up of Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, and Redefinition.

Substitution

In this level, technology is directly substituted in traditional way. For example, we may use an electronic, powerpoint presentation, or web-based version of the document rather than a hard copy in our lessons. So it's simple like bare-bones.

Augmentation

In this step, again, technology is directly substituted for a traditional one, but with remarkable improvements to the students experience. For instance, making a presentation using photos, videos, interactive links etc.

Modification

At this stage, it's started to progress from enhancement to transformation on the model. This an effective alter to the design of the session and its learning consequence instead of replacement or enhancement. For example, the creation of calendar, messaging students, posting assignments, and tracking grades.

Redefinition

In the last level of SAMR is Redefinition where enabling the activities which were formerly impossible in the classroom that doesn't use technology.
